How pet-safe are cleaning products (Yes, even with Essential Oils)

You're not wrong to worry.

Here’s the truth: not all cleaning products are created with pets in mind. Many contain harsh chemicals or synthetic fragrances that can irritate your dog’s skin, paws, and lungs (even if they’re not chewing the mop).

What about Go Nude? We’re dog people first. Our formulas are designed for real homes, muddy pawprints, cool tile floor naps, and food bowl areas. And yes — they’re safe for your four-legged housemates when used as directed.

The dirty truth about most cleaners

That lemon-fresh spray? Might smell clean, but underneath the citrusy scent could be a whole lot of things your dog’s body doesn’t vibe with — like VOCs, chlorine, ammonia, and artificial fragrances that can irritate their eyes, skin, paws, and lungs.

Even “regular” surface cleaners, when left as residue or inhaled after spraying, can cause reactions in sensitive pups.

So what makes Go Nude pet-safe?

At Go Nude, we’ve done things differently. Our cleaners are:

Non-toxic in their diluted form
Free from artificial perfumes, dyes, SLS, VOCs, chlorine, phosphates & EDCs
Formulated with safe levels of natural antiseptics (essential oils)
Designed for everyday use in real homes;  paws, fur, fluff and all

They’re strong enough to cut through grime, but gentle enough for the surfaces your dog naps on…because we know clean doesn’t have to come with a caution label.

And just like any cleaner, we recommend storing our concentrated refills safely out of reach. Not because they’re dangerous, but because dogs think bottles make great chew toys and toddlers will try to drink anything.

What about our essential oils?

You may have heard that essential oils are toxic for pets. The truth? Some can be — if used incorrectly. But at the safe, diluted levels we use in Go Nude, they’re harmless for furry family members.

Here’s a peek inside:

  • 🍊 Citrus (Sweet Orange): Safe when diluted, often used in pet shampoos, helps repel fleas. Our levels are far below anything harmful.

  • 🌿 Eucalyptus: Can be risky in high doses, but ours is diluted to safe levels. Just ventilate and let surfaces dry before pets walk across.

  • 🌸 Patchouli: Safe when diluted, but strong-smelling. We keep levels subtle and nose-friendly.

  • 🌱 Clove Bud: Contains eugenol, which can be toxic in large amounts. Ours? Highly diluted and completely safe on surfaces.

  • 🌬 Peppermint: Can irritate cats if concentrated. In Go Nude, it’s gentle and balanced.

  • 🌲 Fir Needle: Generally safe when diluted — no issues at the levels we use.

The bottom line? We will not tell you these oils are not toxic because they are. HOWEVER, our products are always balanced, WHEN diluted, and always paired with pet safety in mind.

Sniff-test approved

Dogs are scent machines. If you’ve ever sprayed something and watched your pup sneeze three times and leave the room — not ideal.

Our blends are naturally scented (never perfumed), gentle on noses, and leave your home smelling fresh — not fake. They won’t overwhelm your dog, and they won’t trigger unnecessary irritation. Just that clean, subtle glow-up your home deserves.

Built for real homes, and the dogs who rule them

We’re not just pet-friendly, we’re pet-obsessed.

Our dogs roam the house while we clean, and yep — they’ve thoroughly tested the sniff factor. They’ve even been known to strike a pose next to our products like proud little interns. (Scroll for the pic.)
