Cold Nights, Hot Plates: The guide to hosting a winter dinner party

Colder nights? Hotter dinner parties. The group chat is already drooling, baby. And you're not serving chips and hummus!

This isn’t just dinner. It's sharing love with your nearest and dearest. The kind of night that smells expensive, tastes like you know what you’re doing, and feels like the best parts of going out—but barefoot.

Let’s make this dinner party a core winter memory.

Set the vibe

First rule: no overhead lighting. Ever. Use lamps, candles, anything warm and low. Bonus points if it can be in tune with the music. Burn the fancy candle—you’re not saving it for anything better. Fully detox your bathroom with Go Nude Bathroom Clove & Lemon Myrtle Cleaner and your guests will be amazed by the spa you bathe in. Now your house smells like a day spa, not a panic clean. Fresh matching towels for the guests.

Dress the table

Keep it low-key luxe. A linen runner or washed cotton tablecloth. Mismatched plates and glasses (it’s giving curated chaos). Fresh focaccia from the bakery on a wooden board. A string of herbs, lemons, or gum leaves down the centre. You’re a florist now. If it looks a little undone, that’s perfect.

Pre-guest clean

You’ve got 20 minutes—if you know, you know. Hide the clutter under the bed, in the oven, no judgment. Spray down everything with Sweet Orange + Peppermint Cleaner. Let the scent do the heavy lifting. Clean the mirror, light one candle in the bathroom. You know someone’s taking a selfie.

Playlist on. “SH!T, PEOPLE ARE COMING OVER” is upbeat, smooth, and just sweet enough to make the chaos give you a burst of energy.

Drinks

The best tip: get your partner or bestie to help with drinks while you cook. Or if you want to go solo, set up a DIY drinks station that requires no bartender.

Mulled Wine:
Warm red wine simmered gently with cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves, and a slice of orange. Served in heatproof glasses with a cinnamon stick garnish for stirring. Cozy, fragrant, and perfect for colder nights.

Spicy Marg: One whole chilli frozen in each ice cube. Pour pre-mixed spicy marg over top. That chilli melts slowly, and yes, people will talk about it.

Alcohol-free: Sparkling water with orange slices and a rosemary sprig feels clean, fresh, and considered.

Appetisers elevated

Forget the grazing board full of olives and supermarket dips—this is a vibe.

Baked Brie with Honey and Charred Grapes:
Bake until soft. Char grapes in olive oil and salt until blistered. Serve with fresh rosemary focaccia and gluten-free crackers. Drizzle honey over everything and finish with flaky sea salt. Apologise to no one.

Fresh Prawns on Ice:
Served with lemon wedges, seafood sauce, and a smug smile. No cooking required—just presentation.

Salmon, Dill, and Crème Fraîche Crackers:
A spoon of crème fraîche topped with flaked salmon, dill, cracked pepper, and lemon zest. On seeded gluten-free crackers or rye crisps. Instant elegance.

Mini Beef Burgers
Beef, cheese, pickles, relish in soft brioche buns or lettuce wraps. Gone in two bites. Always a hit.

The main event

Some crowd-pleasers at our place.

For meat-eaters
Slow-roasted lamb shoulder with spicy salsa verde. Meltingly tender, laid out in its own juices. Topped with salsa verde made from herbs, capers, lemon, and garlic. Rustic, luxe, and very photogenic.

Duck fat roast potatoes
Crisp, golden, salty, and fought over.

A big fat salad
Peppery greens, herbs, quick-pickled onions, different variations of tomatoes and a vinaigrette with bite. Cuts through the richness perfectly.

For veggies
High-protein tofu with peanut-chilli sauce. Pan-seared or baked until golden and crisp, plated over a spicy peanut-chilli sauce with lime, garlic, and soy. Finished with pickled cucumber ribbons for crunch and contrast.

Maple-roasted sweet potatoes
Caramelised, sticky, and warm—could easily pass as dessert if you close your eyes.

The night’s not over

Pick up the vibes, boost the playlist, and have some fun.  Low effort. Big flavour. Big vibes. Good lighting. 10/10 would host again.

And yes, someone just asked what smells so good in here. It’s your Go Nude sprays... time to share the love ;)
